Biography
Prof.dr.habil. Larissa Batrancea holds a: BA and MA in Economics, BSc and MSc in Mathematics, PhD in Economics (Babeş-Bolyai University), Post doctoral fellowship in Economics (Romanian Academy of Sciences, Bucharest) and Habilitation in Finance. Having a strong interest in examining the financial brain from an outward and inward perspective, she obtained an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience, “with Merit”, from the University of York, UK.
Her academic record comprises: 137 scientific articles (e.g., in the top-tier outlets Journal of Economic Psychology, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Financial Innovation, PLoS ONE), book reviews; 50 books/book chapters as author, editor, translator; 47 research grants as PI/member; 60 prizes/medals/distinctions; over 100 keynote/invited/conference delegate speeches; coordinated projects/events with academics from 123 universities/institutes/organisations worldwide.
In 2022, she was listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists across All Scientific Fields and in the Own Scientific Field, in the prestigious Scopus (Elsevier) ranking compiled by Stanford University.

⦁ She organised the International Conference “Tax Behavior and Measures for Increasing Tax Revenues”, upon the book launch of the translated manuscript „Psihologia Economică a Comportamentului Fiscal” (Risoprint Publishing, Cluj-Napoca, 2013), keynote speaker: Prof.dr. Erich Kirchler, Universität Wien, Vienna (Austria), guests: representatives of the university management, Romanian National and Regional Tax Authorities, Arnulf Gressel – representative of the Austrian Embassy in Romania, representatives of the Romanian Parliament, academia, business environment and NGOs. The event took place at Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca (Romania), on 16 May 2013 and was attended by approximately 200 people.
⦁ She organised the International Conference for launching the translated version of the book „Arta Strategiei: Ghidul Jucătorului pentru Succesul în Afaceri și în Viață” (Risoprint Publishing, Cluj-Napoca, 2018), keynote speaker: Emeritus Professor Avinash K. Dixit, Princeton University, Princeton (USA), guests: representatives of the university management, academia, business environment and NGOs. The event took place at Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca (Romania), on 17 May 2018 and was attended by approximately 600 people.
International experience
⦁ She initiated and coordinated the largest worldwide project on tax behaviour analysed using the “slippery slope framework”. The project was run in 44 countries across 5 continents, it comprised 14.509 participants (undergraduates and graduates) and involved the coordination of 58 coauthors from 62 universities, institutes and organisations around the world, 22 of these universities being listed among the first 486 universities according to QS World University Ranking 2024. The study was published in Journal of Economic Psychology in 2019.
⦁ She initiated and coordinated the largest worldwide project on self-employed tax behaviour analysed using the “slippery slope framework”. The project was run in 11 countries across 4 continents, it comprised 2.786 self-employed taxpayers and involved the coordination of 18 coauthors from 18 institutions. The study was published in Financial Innovation in 2022, journal listed first in the ranking Web of Science Core Collection – Social Sciences, Mathematical Methods category and third in the ranking Web of Science Core Collection – Business, Finance category.
⦁ In 2021, she graduated an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience (full time programme), “with Merit” from the University of York, United Kingdom.
